Nissan X-Trail is one of the most popular mid-size crossovers on the Russian market. Since its appearance in 2001, the model has managed to change three generations, the last of which was marked by a radical change in appearance and positioning on the market.

But if earlier the X-Trail had practically no competitors, today there are more than enough of them.

One of these competitors is the Skoda Kodiaq model, which was officially presented to the world community in the fall of 2016. Both cars have in common the presence of a spacious interior, a spacious luggage compartment and a comparable price tag, which makes choosing between them a real headache, especially if you are not a fan of any of the above brands. That is why we decided to compare the models with each other in order to identify the main advantages and disadvantages of each of them.

Appearance and dimensions of Skoda Kodiaq and Nissan X-Trail

The first two generations of the Nissan X-Trail enjoyed great popularity among the male audience, which was facilitated by the chopped shape and strict geometry of the body.

With the release of the third generation, the design of the car has become more modern, but most importantly, it lost its former brutality, which instantly attracted the attention of a young audience, both male and female.

Compared to Nissan, Skoda Kodiaq has a calmer and more utilitarian (read - verified) appearance, which will suit both young and mature audiences equally well.

It is also worth noting that the "Czech" offers a wider palette of body colors (17 versus 8) - however, this is applicable only to the European market, since in Russia the standard Kodiaq is available only in 7 colors.

From the point of view of external dimensions, the superiority again belongs to the representative of the Czech car industry, which in a 5-seater arrangement is 57 mm longer and 62 mm wider than the "Japanese".

In addition, the Skoda crossover has a more spacious trunk (720 versus 497 liters) and a higher carrying capacity (675 versus 475 kg). Nissan X-Trail can only respond with higher height and higher ground clearance, despite which the off-road capabilities of cars are comparable.

Interior design and equipment of Skoda Kodiaq and Nissan X-Trail

In terms of interior design, both cars are in perfect order - verified ergonomics, high-quality finishing materials and impeccable workmanship. But if, when creating the X-Trail, the designers drew inspiration from circles and ovals, then in the case of Kodiaq, rectangles and squares were the muse.

There is enough free space in the cars to comfortably accommodate five passengers - however, in addition to the 5-seater layout, the Skoda Kodiaq is also available in a 7-seater version.

Passengers in the first row are equally comfortable in both the first and the second car, but with the back row everything is not so simple. Do not get it wrong, the amount of free space on the second row is par, but the list of pleasant "little things" in the "Czech" is richer. These are curtains on the windows, folding tables mounted in the backs of the front seats, and even a separate block of the climate system, which makes the cabin more practical and travels more comfortable.

Moreover, when the rear row seats are folded, the "Czech" provides a perfectly flat loading area, while the folded rear row of the "Japanese" forms a small step, which imposes a number of inconveniences when transporting bulky cargo.

The level of equipment of the cars is plus or minus comparable, although there is also a slight superiority of the Kodiaq.

Power plants and dynamic characteristics of Skoda Kodiaq and Nissan X-Trail

Nissan X-Trail offers three power plants to choose from for Russian consumers:

  • 2-liter 144-horsepower petrol engine, available in tandem with 6-speed "mechanics" or continuously variable variator;
  • 2.5-liter 171-horsepower gasoline engine, aggregated by a continuously variable variator;
  • 1.6-liter diesel engine producing 130 hp and offered exclusively with a 6-level manual transmission.

At the same time, Skoda Kodiaq offers:

  • 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine producing 150 hp. and available in tandem with a 6-speed manual transmission or automatic transmission;
  • 2-liter 180-horsepower gasoline engine equipped with a 7-speed "automatic";
  • 2-liter diesel unit with a capacity of 150 hp, equipped with a 7-band automatic transmission similar to a 180-horsepower gasoline engine.

When comparing the dynamic characteristics of crossovers, the winner again goes to the Skoda Kodiaq. Thus, the top-end petrol driver of the Czech Republic exchanges the first hundred in 7.8 seconds. and is capable of 206 km / h, while the 2.5-liter X-Trail accelerates from 0 to 100 in 10.5 seconds. and can reach a maximum speed of 190 km / h. In the combined cycle, Skoda consumes about 7.3 l / 100 km, while Nissan - about 8.3 liters.

The driving qualities of crossovers deserve special attention. So, Nissan has a decent ride and confidently keeps a straight line, which allows you to comfortably move along suburban roads and country terrain. At the same time, the car is absolutely not conducive to fast driving, which is due to the "long" steering and noticeable rolls when passing high-speed turns.

Skoda Kodiaq - on the contrary, has a more assembled suspension, but is able to please with easy handling, excellent steering feedback, as well as minimal roll in corners.

Prices and equipment Skoda Kodiak and Nissan X Trail

In the photo: interior elements of the Nissan X-Trail

The minimum cost of Skoda Kodiaq on the Russian market is 1.413 million rubles, while potential buyers will have to pay at least 1.401 million rubles for the standard Nissan X-Trail, which makes it a more profitable acquisition in terms of cost.

The configuration options deserve special attention. So, the "Japanese" offers as many as 10 configuration options (XE, SE, SE Yandex, Se +, SE Top, XE +, LE, LE Yandex, LE + and LE Top), but the usual Kodiaq is limited to 7 versions (Active, Ambition, Hockey Edition, Style, as well as SportLine, Scout and Laurin & Klement).

The list of standard equipment for the Nissan X-Trail includes:

  • ABS, EBD, ESP, AEB, ARC and ATC systems;
  • front and side airbags + curtain airbags;
  • central locking with remote control;
  • the function of turning on the low beam when starting the engine;
  • halogen head optics with LED-edging;
  • power windows for all doors;
  • Cruise control;
  • two-zone climate;
  • audio system with 4 speakers;
  • heated windshield;
  • heated seats for front riders;
  • electrically adjustable heated exterior mirrors with an electric folding system.

The basic equipment of the Skoda Kodiaq includes:

  • heated exterior mirrors;
  • system of exchange rate stability, ABS and EBD;
  • front and side airbags;
  • central locking with remote control;
  • tire pressure monitoring system;
  • rear LED lights;
  • immobilizer;
  • 2-zone climate;
  • audio system with 8 speakers;
  • 17-inch wheels;
  • Light Assistant system, etc.

And if the cars have almost parity with a set of standard equipment (although Skoda is more expensive), the list of additional (read - optional) equipment of the Czech is noticeably superior to that of a representative from the Land of the Rising Sun. Ultimately, the price of the top-end configuration of the X-Trail is at least 1.991 million rubles, but the price of the Skoda Kodiaq is an impressive 2.95 million rubles.

Conclusion

Summarizing all of the above, the winner of our "battle" is the Skoda Kodiaq, which offers customers a more spacious and roomy interior, more efficient and economical engines, as well as a more impressive list of additional equipment.

At the same time, it should be noted that the Czech is tuned primarily for driving on an asphalt road surface, while the Nissan X-Trail is more versatile and will cope equally well both with driving on asphalt and on country roads.
