JAC S7 review 2020-2021 - specifications and photos

As statistics show, the popularity of crossovers all over the world is growing every year. If we consider the list of models for each manufacturer, then at least a couple of examples of SUV class cars are available. Chinese-made copies are no less popular crossovers. One of such examples is the new JAC S7 crossover, which was named X7 at home in China.

The official debut of the novelty was postponed several times due to various reasons. In China, the crossover was presented in the spring of 2020, but now the JAC S7 has reached European countries. The car turned out to be not entirely familiar in terms of design, but it cannot be confused with others. Narrow LED optics, impressive body dimensions and an interior designed for 5 or 7 seats. The characteristics are not particularly diverse, one gasoline turbocharged engine, automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

Exterior of the new crossover

The appearance of the new JAC S7 crossover turned out to be not entirely familiar due to the front optics. At the front, the JAC C7, like the new JAC J7 liftback, has a large radiator grille, with horizontal lines and chrome trim. It certainly looks modern, but in terms of protecting the radiator, it does not really help. Even in spite of the additional plastic mesh insert behind the slats. As for the optics, it reminds many of the headlights of the 4th generation Jeep Cherokee.

The headlights turned out to be narrow and tightened on the side fenders. Depending on the configuration of the JAC S7, the optics can be conventional based on halogen bulbs or fully LED. It seems that such headlights are rather decorative and you need to add at least a couple more for better lighting, but no, that's all there is from the lighting elements on the front.

The front bumper of the crossover is rather a formality, these are separate parts connected into one whole. The very bottom, where the additional radiator grille is located, is made of black plastic and also serves as additional protection. On the sides of the JAC S7 bumper, the designers added a pair of large air ducts, with horizontal chrome strips. Of course, in total, such a design is more likely to be an amateur, since I would like to replace the optics with a more familiar one, and reduce the radiator grille in size.

The side of the JAC S7 is surprised by its considerable length, which immediately speaks of a spacious interior, as well as the presence of a third row of seats. Considering the size of the body, the designers have chosen well the rims for it, thereby making a proportional ratio. Otherwise, there is nothing special in terms of design. A straight line extends from the front wings to the hind feet. Below it, there were door handles, a fuel filler flap and a small stamping in the lower part of the side doors.

With flaws, you can note the door handles located below the horizontal line. There is a feeling that something is missing, and it would be better to place them on the same level with the line. On the plus side, the JAC S7 side mirrors were left in the corner of the front windows, and not on the door panel. The list of side mirrors includes an electric adjustment drive, heating, LED repeaters and side cameras.

Now about the body color of the JAC S7. While the manufacturer is silent on the palette of shades, but obviously they will not be too bright and defiant. Most likely it will be black, white, brown, blue, red, silver and maybe a couple more shades.

The back of the JAC S7 is made in the new style of the company. Like the JAC J7 liftback, the feet have split sections and are fully LED. Additionally, they were connected by an LED line stretched over the entire width of the trunk lid. Here, the company emblem is located in the center, a spoiler decorates the trunk lid on top, with an LED stop repeater. Another plus is that for the top version, the manufacturer will add an electric boot lid.

The trunk lid itself is surprisingly large and convenient in terms of loading oversized cargo. There is no narrowed bottom, and there is enough space, if you do not take into account the small step near the bumper. As for the rear bumper, like the front one, it consists of several separate elements. A small part is painted in body color, the rest, the lower part is made of black plastic. Here, on the black plastic, there is a diffuser, 4 twin nozzles of the exhaust system, 2 nozzles in one pair. Curved L-shaped rear foglights fit well into the design.

The last detail of the exterior of the JAC S7, which remains to be considered, is the roof of the crossover. Depending on the country of delivery and vehicle equipment, the roof can be solid, with a sunroof or panoramic. According to the manufacturer and representatives of the company, JAC S7 cars with a solid roof or an electric sunroof (only for top-end configuration) will be supplied to the CIS countries. Unfortunately, there is no panoramic roof for the CIS countries.

In total, the new JAC S7 crossover looks modern in appearance, but not quite standard because of the narrow front optics. The length of the body in every possible way hints at the presence of a third row of seats, although the question remains how comfortable the passengers of the third row will be. As for the rest, the exterior design of JAC S7 is rather a mixture of European and Chinese styles.

The interior of the new crossover

Despite the fact that the JAC S7 crossover model was presented relatively recently, the designers did not deprive the interior of the mechanical control buttons, like they did in the JAC J7 liftback, although they reduced their number to a minimum. The central part of the front panel is occupied by a 12.3 ″ touchscreen display of the multimedia system, made in the form of a tablet. There is no reliable information yet, but according to various sources, the Android Auto system, modified to meet the company's requirements, served as the basis for multimedia. If desired, the system allows you to synchronize different gadgets with the display, as well as display the necessary information on the screen.

Below, under the display, there is a pair of air ducts and a climate control panel. It is worth noting that climate control is controlled by touch buttons. On the one hand, it is modern and beautiful, but in practice it is a disadvantage, especially for the driver. The manufacturer has provided only sound accompaniment, like any mechanical or vibration response. As for the front panel itself, it is made of soft plastic, in two tiers (clearly visible behind the multimedia display), and is also decorated with plastic inserts and chrome elements.

The central tunnel of the JAC S7 is massive and discreet. At the very beginning, they placed a small recess for storing small items or gadgets. There will be no significant changes to the console between the crossover trim levels. As standard, there is a compact automatic transmission lever, a pair of cupholders behind the curtain.

There is also a button for an electromechanical handbrake and a downhill start assist system. The whole set ends with a small armrest between the front seats, with a spacious compartment inside. As for the interior of JAC S7 itself, as already mentioned, it is designed for 5 or 7 seats, according to the formula 2 + 3 or 2 + 3 + 2, respectively.

The first row seats have a classic look, a high back, separate head restraints and good lateral support. The basic equipment will please the maximum with the mechanical adjustment of the front seats.The top-of-the-line JAC S7 will receive an electric drive for adjusting the first row of seats, heating and ventilation, as well as memory for three settings modes.

The second row of JAC S7 seats is designed for seating 3 passengers, with the ability to fold in a 60/40 ratio. From the pleasant, only the backrest tilt adjustment is available. There is plenty of free space for passengers in the second row. As for the third row of seats, it is designed for two passengers, although there is not much free space. Rather, the 3rd row will be for children and then for trips with short distances.

The cladding played an important role in the interior design of the JAC S7. Depending on the configuration of the crossover, the upholstery can be completely fabric or natural leather. The downside is that there is no way to choose the interior color, regardless of the trim material, the color will only be black.

Finally, consider the driver's seat of the JAC S7 2020. All modifications of the crossover, except for the top one, will receive an analog instrument panel with a 3.5 ″ monochrome display of the on-board computer. It will display only the most necessary information about the condition of the car. As for the top-end configuration of the JAC S7, the dashboard will be digital, based on a 12.3 ″ color display. In addition to the basic data, the driver is offered to display the image from the cameras and navigation maps on the tidy.

The steering wheel of the JAC S7 did not receive any special changes, with the exception of the flattened lower part. The steering wheel cover can be ordinary (soft plastic) or leather, while the adjustment will be only in height. Well, the interior of the crossover will really delight you with comfort, modern design and free space for passengers in the first and second rows of seats. There will not be much difference between the trim levels in the cabin, individual elements and trim, but in terms of the functional part of the modifications will be almost the same.

Alas, like most Chinese cars, the JAC S7's specs are scarce. There is only one turbocharged petrol engine available, 1.5 liter and automatic transmission. The drive in this crossover is only front, according to the manufacturer, you should not expect an all-wheel drive version.

The suspension of the JAC S7 crossover is standard independent, McPherson struts are installed in front, and a multi-link suspension in the rear. The braking system is slightly different between the axles, the manufacturer installed ventilated disc brakes on the front wheels, and conventional disc brakes on the rear axle. The basis for the JAC S7 was 18 ″ aluminum wheels with 235/60 tires, while the spare wheel is full, and not a stowaway, as is now customary.

Not to say that the differences between the top-end and basic JAC S7 configuration are very noticeable and significant, but they are still there. For example, in the fabric upholstery of the passenger compartment, the absence of an electric boot lid and an electric sunroof. Nevertheless, the list of the initial version of JAC S7 includes a multimedia system, a rear view camera and more.

The new JAC S7 crossover really turned out to be unusual because of the optics, a large radiator grille with vertical ribs, while the interior is designed for 5 or 7 seats. Starting from the basic configuration, the novelty will be able to please with a variety of modern technologies and functions that are usually not found in European counterparts.

Of course, there are drawbacks, in particular the lack of a variety of units, only an automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, which is certainly not the best option for the SUV segment. If you believe the words of the manufacturer, then further copies will be completed according to the same principle, which means that there will be no changes in terms of technical characteristics.
