Information that the Porsche company is preparing a European competitor Tesla has been circulating for several years. Photos and information about the new Porsche Taycan have repeatedly appeared on the Internet, but there was no reliable data until the last moment. Now the company has officially presented to the public the serial electric car Porsche Taycan. The premiere of the novelty took place almost simultaneously in China, North America and Europe. In North America, the novelty was shown near Niagara Falls. In Europe and China, the presentation took place near a solar power plant near Berlin and a wind farm on Pingtan Island, respectively.

If we talk about the appearance of the new Porsche Taikan, then this is a copy of the previously presented Mission E concept, which was presented in September 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. There are differences, however, as the production model is still different from the concept. Among the highlights are the rear doors, which open in a classic form, in the concept they opened against the movement, that is, from the B-pillar. In the new Porsche Taycan, designers have finalized the aerodynamic body kit.

Side mirrors became the main revision. Previously, the manufacturer suggested following in the footsteps of modern trends and installing cameras instead of side mirrors. The serial model Porsche Taikan still received classic mirrors located on the door panels. Generally speaking, about the exterior of the novelty, then in many ways it resembles the latest generation Porsche 911.

Despite the loud statements, the buyer has so far been presented with two basic configurations of the Porsche Taikan Turbo and Turbo S electric cars. These configurations are considered the most powerful modifications by the companies that can also be found in other Porsche models. As for the less powerful modifications, their appearance should be expected towards the end of 2019. By the way, according to company representatives, the first Taycan Cross Turismo model will be presented in 2020.

The basis for the new Porsche Taycan electric car was the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform, which was developed specifically for the company's models with electric installations instead of internal combustion engines. The heart of the new Porsche Taikan is two electric motors, one for each axle of the electric car. Both are paired with a dual-speed gearbox. The first stage of the transmission provides acceleration at the moment of start, the second gear is designed to maintain speed and build up power reserves.

In total, both electric motors of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S are capable of squeezing out 761 horses, while the maximum torque will be 1,050 Nm. The Turbo S grade will be able to overcome the first hundred on the speedometer in 2.8 seconds. As for the usual Turbo configuration, the total power is 680 horses. This allows you to overcome the first hundred in 3.2 seconds. Both configurations can accelerate to a maximum of 260 km / h. It is worth noting that the drive of both configurations is complete, implemented by two electric motors. It is reliably known that the Porsche Taikan is the first serial electric car that operates on an 800 V on-board network, while the capacity of lithium-ion batteries is 93.4 kWh. The battery itself consists of 396 cells, which are combined into 33 separate modules. If we talk about charging an electric car, then the average time from a special device will be 22.5 minutes, so that the charge indicator is 80%. The peak power of this charging is 270 kW. The manufacturer did not rule out the possibility of charging the Porsche Taycan electric car from a home outlet, through a standard SAE J1772 connector. In addition to the characteristics, they also called the power reserve, according to the WLTP standard it will be 450 km for the Turbo configuration, and for the Turbo S the power reserve is 412 km due to the greater power of the units.

The interior of the new electric car Porsche Taycan is presented in a modern design. The front of the panel is occupied by a huge 16.8 ″ curved color display, which displays instruments and all the necessary information. At the same time, it is clarified that the driver can choose one of 4 ready-made options for displaying devices or customize at will. The classic version provides for round devices, the power usage sensor is displayed in the center. If you select Map mode, the system will show the navigation map instead of the power sensor.

Selecting Full Map mode will transform the instrument panel into a large navigation display. The last tidy mode is Pure. In this case, the panel displays only the most necessary information about the state of the electric vehicle (navigation, speed, road signs). For convenience, on the sides of the screen there are buttons for controlling external lighting and switching modes of movement of the Porsche Taycan.

The right side of the Porsche Taikan dashboard was taken under the 10.9 ″ touchscreen display of the multimedia system, with voice control. It is enough to say "Hey Porsche" to activate the system and then simply name the desired sections of the multimedia. If there are few such displays, then for an additional fee it is suggested to install another one in front of the front passenger. This will allow the passenger to enjoy the multimedia functions individually without interfering with the main center display, including the driver.

The displays did not end there, a little lower in the central tunnel Porsche Taikan is another 8.4 ″ touchscreen display, which is responsible for climate control. The same screen displays the charge level in the parking lot or at the time of charging. If this is not enough, then for a separate surcharge for passengers of the second row, you can install a 5.9 ″ touchscreen display to control individual functions of the sedan and adjust the climate control. This is where the possibilities with displays end.

The driver's seat of the Porsche Taycan can surprise with the steering wheel, depending on the driver's wishes, it can be simple and sporty. The interior trim of the new electric car is also not in the last place. The designers used synthetic leather made partly from olive leaves and partly from recycled polyester fiber. If you have luggage, don't worry, there are two compartments to choose from, one at the front with a volume of 57 liters and one at the back with 340 liters. By folding the second row seats, you can at least double the luggage compartment.

From the pleasant moments of the Porsche Taikan functional set, one can note the centralized chassis control system, three-dimensional adaptive suspension, electronic shock absorber control, as well as a roll stabilization system with a rear differential lock function. A total of 5 modes of movement are provided for the driver to choose from: sport, sport +, economical, basic and individual.

In addition to the main characteristics, the manufacturer named the price, the starting price of the Turbo configuration is from $ 153,310, the Turbo S configuration will cost from $ 187,610. Considering the possible variations and additional features, the new Porsche Taycan electric car can be much more expensive in the basic configuration.
