After the Swedish manufacturer Volvo came under the control of the Chinese company Geely, many details began to change. In particular, the Chinese manufacturer decided to create a separate sub-brand responsible for luxury-looking electric cars. They started talking about the appearance of the Polestar brand back in October 2017, it was then that the new Polistar 1 coupe with very good characteristics was first presented at an auto exhibition in China.

We can say that the new Polistar from Volvo is a kind of division of Mercedes-AMG, which for the most part will specialize in electric vehicles with good technical characteristics, a rich functional set, safety and comfort systems. Now the manufacturer wants to diversify its lineup by introducing a new Polistra 2 liftback, which is no worse than a coupe in terms of characteristics. The official premiere is expected at the Geneva Motor Show. Let's consider in more detail the new product, as well as the characteristics and configuration.

Exterior of the new Polistar 2 2020

Despite the brand spun off from the main company Volvo, the exterior is quite recognizable. In part, these are the front and side parts of the electric vehicle, as well as individual elements of the interior. To make the design a little unique, it was modified to a modern style, adding different control systems, comfort and more restrained features.

front part The new Polistar 2 2019-2020 resembles the latest generation of Volvo cars in many ways. In particular, these are similar optics, made in the style of "Torr's hammer", with a small depression towards the radiator grill. Starting with the basic configuration, the manufacturer promised to install only matrix LED optics (for Canada and the USA, conventional LED optics), with automatic high beam control and light beam correction in case of oncoming traffic.

Central part the new Polistar occupies a pseudo grille, but without it the electric car would look ugly. In addition, according to the brand representatives, a system (blinds) installed on the back of the grille can automatically regulate the air flow, thereby ensuring the optimal temperature for the electric motor. A huge plus will be in cold weather or frost, heat loss will be minimal. If you take a good look at the grille, then in the central part you can find a disguised sensor for various security systems.

The front bumper of the Polistar 2 2020 is also modified for a modern style. On its entire width, the designers added an insert that imitates an additional grille, and round LED fog lights on the sides. As on the main grill, the lower grille also received sensors and sensors for various safety and comfort systems.

If we compare the front end of the Polistar electric car with Volvo cars, then you can find out the new modification of the S40, as well as the previously presented Volvo Concept 40.2. Thanks to this, the new Polistar retained many of the concept's details and became even more original. It is also interesting that, by and large, the designers did not change the hood and windshield, which is why the novelty is very similar to its counterpart with an internal combustion engine.

Sideways the new Polistar looks no less modern, and, to be honest, the minimum betrays an attitude towards the family of electric vehicles. The door handles look rough, but this is Volvo style, the lower part of the doors was embellished with a stamped line, and a dividing line appeared above the handles, which also stretches along the trunk lid.

Another addition of Polistar designers, side mirrors located on the door panels. The lower part of the mirrors and the mounting foot are only in black, the upper part is painted in the body color. The functional set of such mirrors is no worse than top-end Volvo trim levels. It will include heating, LED turn signal repeater, automatic folding, memory for several modes and an electric adjustment drive.

With additional elements of the side of the new Polistar, one can note black pillars and black edging around the windows, a black plastic body kit on the bottom of the electric car and a fuel hatch (for recharging). What will be the body shades of the novelty, the manufacturer is still silent, but in all likelihood they will repeat the first Polistar model.

The base for the Polistar 2 will be 19 ″ alloy wheels as standard. As an option, the buyer will be offered to install the Performance package, which includes Ohlins adaptive dampers, modern Brembo brakes and gold-colored calipers. In addition, they will install 20 ″ wheels with a different design pattern.

Behind the new Polystar 2 received a whole "garland" of lighting, in particular the unusual rear feet. The main part is made in a C-shape, based on LED elements, the designers stretched the additional part of the feet over the entire width of the trunk lid. As an addition to the design, the base of the feet was made black and the main part bright red, due to which the electric car appears strict and fit.

The rear bumper of the electric car is made in the same austere style. A small notch for license plates, rectangular LED fog lights and several sensors for security systems. Like most of the perimeter, the very bottom is decorated with black plastic, which played no small role in the overall design of the Polistar 2.

The last detail of the Polistar exterior - roof... Here, the designers also did not leave attention aside. The designers painted the edging of the roof (front and side) to match the body color, but the rear and main (central) parts were made of glass, thereby setting a panorama, but not sliding. This whole set is emphasized by the antenna in the form of a shark fin. The design of the novelty, although it reminds many of the latest Volvo models, nevertheless, the electric car will enter the market and already portend considerable demand.

Salon of the new Polistar 2

Like the exterior, the interior of the new Polistar turned out to be modern, stylish, austere and at the same time cozy. Engineers, together with designers, have introduced many modern developments, thereby protecting passengers and increasing comfort. The main console of the electric car also reminds many of the top-end Volvo options. In particular, the central part of the panel was occupied by the 11.15 ″ vertical display of the multimedia system. Despite the novelty of the electric car and modern developments, only Android Auto will serve as the basis for multimedia, with high-quality voice control and the ability to monitor the situation around the vehicle. The Polistar 2 multimedia display itself is made in the form of a tablet overturned on the top of the panel. Designers have minimized the number of mechanical buttons by transferring basic control functions to the central display. With additional elements on the dashboard, only a pair of air ducts in the end part and the speaker of the audio system can be noted.

Among them are the audio control selector, the transmission lever and the buttons for quick access to security systems.The central tunnel ends with a small cup holder and an armrest, which is equipped with gadget chargers, climate control buttons and a pair of air ducts on the back.

The designers have finalized the front seats of the Polistar 2, equipping it with good lateral support, high backrests and active head restraints. The seats themselves can be adjusted in 12 directions and, if necessary, save three settings modes.

Second row seats are able to comfortably accommodate three passengers, the folding ratio is standard 60/40. Like the front seats, the second one was equipped with heated and adjustable backrests. As for the interior cladding of Polistar 2, there is still a minimum of information here. According to reports, the buyer will be provided with a choice of quality fabric or leather. The colors will be large, most likely:

  2. grey;
  3. beige;
  4. White.


Despite the severity of the Polistar 2 interior colors, individual details can still be changed. For example, seat belts, depending on the selected package of options, can be gold or red, similarly and the stitching of the seats. The front panel can also be covered with fabric or leather.

The driver's seat of the Polistar electric car was not spared. The instrument panel, regardless of the configuration or the package of options, is only digital, based on a color 12.3 ″ color display. If desired, the driver can choose one of the programmed modes or arrange the settings at his discretion.

Steering wheel Polystar 2 is more classic than sporty (this is what some experts said about it). Three-spoke design, leather upholstery and function buttons with all-round chrome piping. The center part of the steering wheel was embellished with a branded emblem in the form of a star. If you do not take into account the settings and individual elements on the tidy, then many will say that this is a luxury car with a conventional diesel or gasoline engine. We can say that the designers of Polistar did not chase after a futuristic or unusual interior, but completely made it familiar and comfortable, paired with modern functions.

Technical characteristics of Polystar 2

There is no sense in talking about the presence of internal combustion engines under the hood of Polistar, and there will not be, since this is a purely electric car built on the basis of electric motors and nothing more. The basis for the second model of the brand was the CMA platform, similar to that used for the latest generation Volvo XC40 compact crossover.

front part Suspension Polistar 2 is independent and built on the basis of MacPherson struts, the rear part is multi-link. Despite this similarity, the base is quite adaptable for the installation of all-electric equipment. For the European market and North America, a 78 kWh battery will be installed, for the Chinese market, the manufacturer decided to install a 72 kW battery. Regardless of the capacity, the battery will be integrated into the body shell of the electric vehicle and located under the floor along the perimeter of the passenger compartment.

The heart of the new Polistar's electric car is two electric motors, one on each axle. According to the manufacturer, the total power is 408 horses with a maximum torque of 660 Nm. To the first hundred on the speedometer, the second Polistar model is capable of accelerating in 4.7 seconds. Many people remember that the main indicator of an electric vehicle is the range on one battery charge, according to the WLTP tests, the charge will last for 500 km. The EPA standard states that one full battery charge will last for 440 km. Therefore, it remains to wait for the official appearance of the novelty in order to fully test and say exactly how many kilometers one battery charge will last.

Since each Polistar axle is equipped with an electric motor, the drive will therefore be full. To transmit torque, the engineers used an electric transmission, with the ability to recuperate braking force. It remains to wait for the official start of sales in order to fully understand what the new Polystar 2 will be capable of, as well as its hidden technical characteristics, some of which are often hidden from public view.

Safety and comfort Polistar 2

The manufacturer initially promised to equip the new Polistar with the most modern comfort and safety systems, thereby raising it to a new level. As shown by various sources of information, the novelty really received intelligence and many driver assistants. Among the main systems and reliably known are:

Price and configuration of the new Polistar

Since the new Polistar has not yet been officially presented, the manufacturer therefore keeps the list of complete sets in secret, or rather, if it is correct to say, the list of optional packages. This is how the brand representatives called all sorts of variations of the novelty. At the request of the buyer, the novelty can be equipped with the best interior, the best characteristics or comfort and safety systems, but there will be only one heart of an electric vehicle (electric motor).

According to preliminary data, the start of sales of the new Polistar liftback is scheduled for early 2020 in Germany. In the spring of 2021, the electric car will appear in the vastness of other countries. It is not yet known whether this model will be in Russia. In Germany, the basic configuration after the start will cost from EUR 59,900, in other countries in 2021 the manufacturer will offer the basic version at a more affordable price - from 39,900 euros.

In general, the new electric car Polistar will attract many fans, since both externally and internally it looks like modern Volvo cars, but an environmentally friendly and powerful electric motor is hidden under the hood.
