In recent years, the popularity of crossovers has been growing at a rapid pace. Each manufacturer has in its arsenal at least one model of the SUV class, or even more. Suzuki is considered one of the most popular and well-known brands in terms of compact SUVs. The most famous models can be considered Jimny and Grand Vitara, which are still popular all over the world. Now the manufacturer has decided to release a new Suzuki Across, intended exclusively for the European market.

The peculiarity of this model is that it is completely based on the new Toyota RAV4 and if you do not consider the front end or individual decorative elements, it can be confused with the original. The manufacturer simply decided not to waste time and copied the RAV4, replacing only certain parts. So far, it is known that under the hood of the new Suzuki Across there will be a hybrid installation, and an electromechanical variator and an E-Four all-wheel drive system will work in tandem.

Suzuki Across 2020 price and configuration

The official start of sales of the new Suzuki Across 2020 has not yet been announced, and so are the prices. However, some information has been leaked from the manufacturer. According to preliminary data, the price of the new crossover will start at 43,000 euros, and the official appearance in dealerships is expected no earlier than autumn 2020.

Since the Suzuki Across is essentially an identical copy of the Toyota RAV4, it is therefore possible to predict what the future novelty will be equipped with. Starting from the basic configuration, the new Across will receive a multimedia system, a package of active safety systems, as well as a good list of comfort systems. Nevertheless, the manufacturer will reveal more information after the official start of sales.

Exterior of the new crossover

Whatever one may say, but the new Suzuki Across crossover is easily confused with the latest generation Toyota RAV4 crossover. Despite the fact that Suzuki was presented quite recently, many are already joking with the name - Suzuki RAV4 or Toyota Across, but the design remains unchanged and if you look closely, you can find differences both in the exterior and in the interior of the novelty.

At the front, the design of the Suzuki Across is indeed somewhat reminiscent of the RAV4, but with separately modified details. In particular, the designers have changed the main grille, making it wider. The false radiator grille has also changed, instead of the Toyota emblem, a chrome "S" is now installed. Small changes were made to the front optics, it was equipped with L-shaped LED running lights, lenses, and now it is based entirely on LED technology, with cornering lights, a delayed light off and many other functions. The optics itself has become softer, with rounded corners and a smooth descent to the radiator grill.

Minor changes were made to the front and rear bumpers. The front bumper has got large aerodynamic notches on the sides and a pair of round foglights, mesh inserts, similar to the radiator grill. The front bumper is emphasized by a massive splitter, with pronounced ribs in the center, which in turn played the role of additional engine protection. Otherwise, the features of the Suzuki Across remained from the RAV4, in particular the same hood with a raised edge on the sides. Even the windshield has got the same dimensions and slope as in the Toyota RAV4.

If the front of the new Suzuki Across was somehow different from the Toyota RAV4, then from the side these are completely two identical cars. Given the attractiveness and popularity of the original, Suzuki's designers did not tweak the details. Square wheel arches, all kinds of black inserts on the side of the body and strict lines. As a hybrid car, the charging cover is located on the right front fender. Side mirrors, as in the original, are also located on the door panel, and the color with functionality is the same.

The list of side mirrors includes heating, electric adjustment, LED turn signals and automatic folding. It is not surprising why the new Suzuki Across has become the most modern and at the same time the most expensive model of the company. The novelty is now based on 19 ″ alloy wheels (235/55 tires), although it is said that the design of the wheels will not be like in the RAV4. It is possible that the body color of the Suzuki Ekros will be the same:

  • white;
  • grey;
  • silver;
  • blue;
  • dark blue;
  • the black;
  • snow white;
  • red.

The question remains whether the new Suzuki Across will receive a two-tone body color, whether the roof will be painted black or gray. The buyer will also be offered a choice of metallic or mother-of-pearl shades. The exterior can be supplemented with chrome parts and a plastic body kit.

At the front, the Suzuki Across crossover was somehow different from the RAV4, at the back the novelty is almost identical. It is especially noticeable in the hind footsteps, some of which are located on the trunk lid, and the second part on the body of the crossover. A chrome insert and Suzuki's signature logo accentuate the hind feet.

Otherwise, there are no differences on the trunk lid, a small sports spoiler at the very top, a recess for license plates and a plastic trim at the very bottom. One modified detail on the rear is the bumper. It is difficult to visually find the differences, but in fact they are in size, for some unknown reason, Suzuki has modified the rear diffuser, making it more expressive, and rumors go that the bumper mount itself has also been redone due to marketing purposes.

The last detail of the Suzuki Across exterior is the roof. As it should be for modern cars of this class, depending on the configuration, the roof can be solid, with a sunroof or completely panoramic. As standard, a shark fin antenna and a pair of roof rails are installed on the roof for attaching an additional trunk.

For the European market, the appearance of the new Suzuki Across will be a surprise, since Toyota has not done anything like this before. I wish the crossover's appearance was more unique and minimally replicated the original Toyota RAV4 model. It's hard to say whether the new Across will be a competitor or a brother for the Toyota RAV4, but the similarities in the exterior are huge.

The interior of the new crossover

As well as in appearance, the interior of the new Suzuki Across received similarities and differences, looking ahead I want to say that unique elements can be counted on the fingers, the rest is all from Toyota RAV4. The front panel gives off similarities to the RAV4, in particular the raised 10.2 ″ display of the multimedia system, made in the form of a tablet. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay served as the basis for multimedia at the same time, which was not previously found in Suzuki cars.

The designers have retained both touch and mechanical buttons. Below the display is a pair of air ducts and an emergency parking button. The central part ends with a climate control panel and a small recess with a USB connector and a socket for recharging gadgets.

The central tunnel of the Suzuki Across crossover turned out quite well. At the very beginning, a small recess was placed, most likely it will also serve as a place for wireless charging of gadgets. Nearby is the control puck for multimedia and crossover functions, buttons for quick access to various car systems and of course the transmission lever.

Two cupholders turned out very conveniently, to which you can easily reach, and in any situation they will not be an obstacle. A massive and roomy armrest completes all this decoration. On the back, the armrest can receive a pair of sockets and USB ports for recharging, or a climate control panel and a pair of air ducts.

The entire interior of the Suzuki Across looks modern and sporty. The front seats received a high backrest, massive lateral support and a comfortable fit. The seat adjustment will be both mechanical and electric. According to the manufacturer, the list of functions will include heating, ventilation, memory for three modes and a massage function.Although there are still doubts about the last function, since it is not in the original. The second row of Suzuki Across seats is designed for 3 seats. There will be enough free space for passengers of any physique.

Top versions will receive heated seats, and if necessary, the 2nd row can be folded in a 60/40 ratio, thereby increasing the luggage compartment. What will be sheathed in the interior of the new Suzuki crossover, the manufacturer is still silent. But, you can already guess from the Toyota RAV4 that the upholstery can be fabric or leather. Regarding the color of the seats, it is known so far only about the black or beige version. In addition, the buyer will be offered to choose decorative inserts, as well as the color of the stitching (according to the standard, the stitching will be the same color as the body of the Suzuki Across).

Finally, it remains to consider the driver's seat. According to the manufacturer, the Suzuki Across dashboard in the top-end configuration will be completely digital, but it is reliably known so far only about the analog instrument. The arrangement of the instruments turned out to be unique and does not repeat the original, the central part was occupied by a large speedometer, a tachometer, engine temperature and fuel level sensors were placed on the sides.

Probably the most unique interior detail of the Suzuki Across is the steering wheel. It rather moved from the existing new models of the company and most of all resembles the Vitara crossover, but modified in a modern way. The steering wheel is designed for three spokes, two of which are reserved for function buttons, while the buttons will be without any sensors. You can adjust the steering wheel in height and reach, which is also a plus for the driver.

The interior of the new Suzuki Across looks modern, but not the most unique, as it closely resembles the Toyota RAV4. In general, there is good functionality, everything you need for comfortable travel and modern technology. It remains to wait for the official appearance of the crossover in order to finally say how the new product will differ from the original model.

Specifications Suzuki Across 2020

All sources say the new 2020 Suzuki Across will be a hybrid. In addition to the internal combustion engine, two electric motors will work in tandem, one per crossover axle. The volume of the gasoline unit will be 2.5 liters, with a capacity of 177 horses and 219 Nm of torque, the electric motor will give 182 hp and 270 Nm to the front axle. As for the electric motor on the rear axle, its power is 54 horses and 121 Nm. In total, all units can produce 306 horsepower.

Dimensions Suzuki Across 2020
Length, mm4635
Width, mm1855
Height, mm1690
Wheelbase, mm2690
Ground clearance, mm190
Front wheel track, mm1600
Rear wheel track, mm1630

In tandem with the Suzuki Across engines, the manufacturer will install an electromechanical variator and a modern E-Four all-wheel drive system. The manufacturer has not yet considered other power units for the new crossover.

According to the manufacturer, measuring according to the WLTP standard promises an electric power reserve of 75 kilometers. To help the electric motors, a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 18.1 kW * h will be installed, located under the interior of the crossover. Also closer to the start of sales, the manufacturer will reveal more information about the suspension, dynamic and technical characteristics of the Suzuki Across.

Safety and comfort systems

Likewise, as with the technical specifications, there is practically no information on the safety and comfort systems of the new Suzuki Across. So far, the manufacturer has revealed only a few details. So the list of new items will include:

  • front and side airbags;
  • safety curtains;
  • multimedia system;
  • collision avoidance system;
  • blind spot monitoring;
  • dual-zone climate control;
  • all-round visibility system;
  • lane control;
  • driver assistant;
  • Wi-Fi access point;
  • mobile connection;
  • voice control;
  • adaptive cruise control;
  • lane control.

Obviously, this is not a complete list of what the manufacturer will offer in the new Suzuki Across. It is possible that several active control systems will appear, but clearly not an autopilot, since then the cost of the crossover would rise instantly.

In general, the exterior and interior of the new Suzuki Across look modern and without unnecessary details. Despite the fact that the car reminds many of the Toyota RAV4, the novelty is predicted to be quite popular, and hence the further development of the model.
